Friday Photo Flashback

Do yourself a sweet favor and visit The Mennobrarian, and read Monica's post on recapturing the magic of childhood.  That's what started me thinking about all those feelings of big skies and playing outside and long summer days.  For today's Friday Photo Flashback I'm posting a picture of me with my best-loved doll Susie.  My doll yesterday, Drowsy, was a favorite also, but she didn't compare to Susie.  I don't know what name she came with, but that's what I named her.  My mom made matching pajamas for us (which I would LOVE to have a picture of!!), matching clothes for Susie and my Barbie (including raincoats), and I even had a special baby buggy for her.  I'd take her on walks up and down the street and people would think she was real.  I must've been about 5 years old in this picture (probably 1969 or 1970).

This is a picture of Susie now.  She's still adorable (even though my old camera doesn't show it) and she's wearing one of her store bought dresses.  I think I pulled most of her eyelashes out though, so that's weird.  Maybe if I dig deep enough, I might be able to find one or two of her other outfits buried in my box downstairs.

Her buggy had the prettiest top that hung over that rod that goes up and over.  I'm not sure if I still have that or not.  As you can see, Frosty is going bananas looking at that baby!  Glad she's fake because we had to put her on top of the fridge and I think you probably shouldn't do that with a real baby - I know my kids never liked that. HA HA  Have a great weekend  ♥

Hey Beth! That's such a cute picture of you as a little girl. What a special keepsake to have. I wish I would have held on to at least one of my dolls. My husband actually still has his first teddy bear from when he was a baby. I it were up to him, I'm sure it would be non-existent right now, but his mom held on to it for him. Now my little boy loves to play with it. Hopefully it'll survive another 30 years so the grandkids can enjoy it too. Hope you have a great weekend!

Another doll lover! I use to adore my dolls, and then I had two girls of my own and neither one of them wanted anything to do with dolls. :o( I think it is so neat that you still have Suzie! Great post.

Thanks for the mention! Anyway, I think that's really interesting that you pulled out all her eyelashes. One day I came home from second grade to find that another little girl that my mother babysat did the same thing to my doll. I could have killed her! Dolls meant so much to us then, wouldn't you say?

So... you must have a very large loft or something - just where do you keep all these dolls and things?

Love to see them, great photos.

I love that you remember your doll's name. I'm so bad...I can't remember any of mine :)

Very sweet pic!

I still have my baby Melissa which I sent to Madame Alexander last year and had restored (new hair, clean face and even a new dress). Buttercup played with her for a little while. She'll probably get packed up soon for my future grandchildren, but who knows, maybe Superman will have get used to seeing her on our bed...glad I'm not the only one!

@ Janice - Well, we're just simple millionaires with many lofts and towers and such. That's why I have so much room for my treasures. NOT!! Just joking...totally...believe me. Susie and Drowsy are my only childhood dolls I still have, and Susie's buggy. The dolls stay in a box with my daughters' dolls. I was the 6th kid and so the treasures I have from childhood are few and far between, including pictures unfortunately. Call the wahhhhmbulance!! Poor me. Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting ~ ♥

It doesn't hurt to leave them on top of the fridge for just a little while does it? HA! ;0)

You pulled Susie's eyelashes? Ah...girls! :)

I may have to empty the top of the fridge if some 5-year old went naughty lol!

Frosty looks like my Mozart when he's eyeing something yummy or adorable :)

How great that you still have her! Love the picture from when you were little, it adds to the story. I thought all kids liked to go on the fridge, oh that's right, it's IN the fridge they like!

What a sweet memory! Susie must be one of the cutest dolls I've ever seen. It's so neat that you've kept her and now your daughters can enjoy her, too.

Your comment on my blog (about the snake looking like a long corn on the cob) made me laugh :).

I saw on your sidebar that you're interested in the Amish. On September 28th, there will be a Facebook Party for Suzanne Woods Fisher's Amish Peace; the author will share a little Amish wisdom for modern life. If you're on FB, you may want to check it out :).

Oh! what a great flashback! Regarding your question about "sponsor," here in the Philippines it is also called Godmother or Godfather of the marriage couple. The sponsors have to affix their signature as witnesses of the solemn vows of the couple in their marriage certificate.

Have a great day.

i don't know i may have to dissagree with you. i think the refrigerator is a perfect place to put children, just make sure to dust them off regularly or it might slow the fridge down.

I loved playing in the outdoors too! What carefree days.

Cute little doll, amazing she is still living. I have my mom´s doll still. never thought to take a picture of her though, nor put her on the fridge. LOL
