The whole idea for this giveaway came about as the result of a hilarious e-mail I received about being a girl in the 1970s. That was me. I never had the Dorothy Hamill haircut, but almost everything else applied. Secretly I really did think Gopher was cute - and oh soooo funny, but of course not as cool as Isaac! For years, I just knew I was going to be a Cruise Director when I got "big". Wait, I am, only I'm not on a boat and I'm not as perky...nowadays it's just called MOM. And watching The Wizard of Oz was a YEARLY event shared with friends, sleeping bags, and a bowl of popcorn. I just put on my strawberry lip gloss from K-Mart and I was ready to hit the mall, or the roller rink of course - duhhh. I remember the first time I got my bangs feathered...now I could use my thumb and middle finger and push them out of my face like the cool kids - and to make sure I looked good, I kept my fat-handled comb in my back pocket, sticking out so everyone KNEW looking good was my business. Man, I was far out! Move over Marcia, Marcia, Marcia...
Look at me and my bad self - my new go-go boots!! They were so groovy.

My poncho and my purple gauchos. OK, the coolness factor dropped just a bit because my bell-bottoms also doubled as high-waters so I wouldn't trip (ummm, yeah, OK). And could I maybe pull my gauchos up a bit more, I don't think they were touching my training bra yet?!

Just think, I bet I left the house that day thinking, 'My hair looks so good I probably won't even sweat in my corduroy jumper and cowl neck.'Finally, the man who won my heart. No, honey, holding up a candle at your grandparents' 50th anniversary isn't the same as holding up a lighter at a Journey concert, but your haircut and uh, mustache(?) sure are dreamy.

NOW, ONTO THE GIVEAWAY!!!
I was thinking about all of my favorite candies from when I was little. Walking over to Ben Franklin while my mom grocery shopped was the best. One nickle could get me FIVE pieces of candy! We have a store near us that is a little neighborhood variety store with an entire of aisle of every candy, new and old, that you could ever want. Sixlets were always my favorite - when there were actually 6 in the little package for a penny. Mmmmm, mmmm.
I collected as many "retro" candies as I could find there and put them together in a decorated 70s-looking paint-sized can with a lid.*
Since this is my first giveaway, I'm just going to follow what I've seen others do...1. Leave a comment and your name gets entered.
2. Become a follower and your name gets entered. If you're already a follower, you're entered.
3. Post the giveaway on your blog, you're entered twice. Be sure and let me know if you did post it so I'm clued it. I realize sometimes people don't like to post giveaways and that's A-OK, you'll still get entered doing either #1 or #2 above - or both, nifty chick.
NOTE TO MY CHILDREN - No, you can't enter. I love you, but no. XXOO
I'll keep this posted until this Friday, July 31st. Then sometime that evening I'll have one of my kids or my husband draw the winner. Have fun, my peeps ~
*NOTE: Because it's summertime, I won't be sending anything chocolate in the mail. I just put a few chocolate things in the picture to bring back some memories.

You were styling with your cowl neck and high rise bell bottoms. *smiles* I remember wearing bell bottoms in high school, and I had one pair that were short like that too. Hi Beth! I signed up to follow your blog, and I am leaving you a comment. I have always loved sixlets, and do you remember that hot dog gum? Oh I loved that hot dog gum. It was cherry tasting and it lasted, as it was like having three pieces of gum. We too, had a little neighborhood store, that we road our bikes to on Saturday morning. We got 50 cents a week allowance, and 25 cents we could spend at the neighborhood grocer and the other 25 cents was tithed to church. I rememer getting some candies 10/1.00. Even the jaw breakers that we sucked on forever it seemed. Laughy taffy was so great and Banana bikes. They were wonderful. You really got my mind to going. I am going to post a post back for you. I will come back and leave you a comment when I have it finished. Thanks for the memories honey. Please pop over and read my blog, as I would love to have you follow mine as well, I am not just doing it for the candy. I am always looking for someone who has the same interests as me, and our memories certainly are. Talk to you later. Country Hugs, Sherry
Hi Beth!
It's Sherry again, I now have your give away on my scroll bar and it is posted. Another chance for me. Yippeeeeeee! Lookout Sugar Daddy here I come. We also loved Black Cows, Teaberry Clark gum, the humongous sweet tarts. Oh I could go on forever and ever. We were something else back then weren't we? Happy Monday Beth. Country Hugs, Sherry

I am starting a NEW Mr. Linky party. It will begin on Aug 10th so everyone will have a week and a half to think about their first post. I have a poll up for votes on which button should be the new button. The "party" is called The Knock Off Knock Out-where THRIFTY meets creative sensation. Go over and learn more about the new weekly event and I would appreciate if you would cast your vote and HELP pick the new button design and its the last week for the July GIVE-A-Way, if you would like to be a part of that event..

Hi Beth me again how are you today, good I hope. Its beautiful here. It rained all morning but is now sunny & 83 very pleasant.
Have a great weekend.
Boy, did I stumble on your blog at the right moment! I, too, remember the penny candy at the local grocers, and the go go boots, the feathered hair, the ponchos and bell-bottoms that swooped out about three inches above my ankles. Good times. Thanks for giving me a chuckle and bringing back some fun memories. Now for some strange reason, I'm hearing the call of candy . . . candy.
Oh I got a Sweet Tooth!!! All of those look yummy and bring back so many memories! Oh and I love your Poncho! I also became a follower!
Thank you for the opportunity!
Artful Blessings,
Kathryn
OK we must be about the same age! I loved your stroll down 70's memory lane - we have many of the same memories. I think my poncho and gaucho's were identical. I loved my feathered hair, comb sticking out of pocket and cowel neck sweaters (did we really wear those??) - Holy Smokes!!
Couldn't tell if the guys were wearing Angel Flights - remember those? Ahhhhh the memories!!
Great post :D
Hello hello hello Beth!
You must be about my daughter's age. Hair style, clothing styles, likes, etc. She had a pair of bone colored boots at about age 10 that she love love loved. She also had the Farrah Fawcett hair style in high school.
Great memories.
Charlotte
I bet you anything you just accidentally ATE the chocolate stuff in the picture!
